The dangers presented by contaminated endoscopes have been highlighted recently, after at least seven people treated in one US hospital were infected with a potentially lethal strain of bacteria after undergoing endoscopic procedures.  The complex design of endoscopes makes preparing them for reuse both labour and time intensive, but Disposable Medical Instruments (DMI) may have the solution, helping to relieve pressure on busy CSSDs and further developing its commitment to supporting hospitals as they work to save costs and increase efficiency.

In addition to designing and supplying customised procedure packs of sterile single-use medical instruments, DMI is now fully certified to undertake packing and sterilisation of third party medical devices. Disposable Medical Instruments (DMI) recently expanded its business with significant investment in an Ethylene Oxide (EtO) sterilising chamber. The new chamber works in 24-hour cycles, handling up to three pallets at a time, each containing the customised packs of disposable medical instruments DMI provides for its clients in the public and private healthcare sector. It can offer much more flexibility than larger EtO facilities, so clients can order exactly what they need, when they need it.

EtO sterilisation is ideal for disposable products because it safely sterilises medical and pharmaceutical devices that cannot support conventional high temperature steam sterilisation, such as those that incorporate electronic components, plastic packaging or plastic containers. It works at a low temperature but with high efficiency, destroying microorganisms, including resistant spores. Its flexibility means it is ideal for sterilising the combinations of medical devices, metals, plastics, gauzes ...

Disposable Medical Instruments (DMI) provides customised packs of stainless steel medical instruments and consumables, designed to minimise waste and give customers a quality product at a competitive price.  As part of its commitment to supporting the NHS as it confronts ongoing budget restraints, DMI recently expanded its business with significant investment in an Ethylene Oxide (EtO) sterilising chamber, part of a new sterilisation, packing and distribution facility at its UK factory.

DMI’s new sterilising chamber offers much more flexibility than many other similar facilities, as it is able to handle smaller orders as well as large ones. This means customers can order customised packs, choosing exactly what they want from the company’s wide range of disposable medical instruments, rather than having to order standard packs containing some products that may simply go to waste.  With DMI, customers can be sure of getting just what they need, when they need it. The fact that everything ...
